Practice Karate Safe and Sound

This article aims to assure your safety so that you get the most out of your workouts while avoiding injuries and/or other complications. The following safety precautions can be helpful to develop safety routines that will be more productive and will prevent the occurrence of injuries.

1) Come in time for your class so that you always incorporate warm-ups, stretching, and cooling down into your program. This will reduce your risk of injury by increasing the blood flow to your muscles in order to prepare them for the work they are about to do.

2) When trying a new technique or Kata or any new routine, slow down. The objective is to practice and perfect your skill; once you have control of the technique you may start increasing the speed and power of your performance.

3) Proper breathing is essential in karate and any sport. If you hold your breath while performing a technique, you run the risk of raising your blood pressure or depriving your brain of oxygen.

4) Always follow sensei and sempai karate instructions and do not engage into kumite practice without their supervision.

5) Use protective gear when practicing kumite. Protective gear is anything you wear that keeps you from getting hurt (mouth guards, fist pads, shin guards, mouth protectors, groin protectors, and chest protectors for females).

Karate training provides constant motion, decisive movements, eternal wisdom, and many important health benefits; however, when enjoying this great form of exercise, you should attention to these precautions so that your experience is not only effective, but safe as well.

Good luck! We at Kobushi Dojo Doral hope you will enjoy all the wonderful benefits of a safe and effective karate program.
